Our Role in the Care Of Your Clients
Our goal at Depression Recovery Groups is to be an effective adjunct to care that our participants receive from licensed healthcare practitioners. We provide self-help education and peer-support that is focused on effectively dealing with depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety. In our work with hundreds of participants, most of whom have been under the care of both a therapist and psychiatrist, we have seen how a support group can enhance compliance with treatment plans and encourage a healthier lifestyle.

Our Group Leaders
Our group leaders have graduate level training and many have personal experience with depression. They receive instruction and supervision so that they can effectively facilitate an online support group. The group leader's focus is to welcome, orient, educate and effectively manage the sharing time of each group they lead. The sharing part of our meetings is the most important segment and our goal is to have the participants help each other as much as possible. The leader is also responsible to make our meetings as participative and engaging as possible by using a mixture of audio and web tools. We do this in a way that tries to be sensitive to each individual's state at a particular meeting. One of our meeting guidelines states that "It's OK not to share - people don't need to actively participate, much can be gained by just listening."

What We Promote
In general, everything that we recommend is based on publicly funded research, usually multiple studies or meta analyses of published research. Since we are not providing therapy, our focus is on suggesting and reinforcing a healthful lifestyle that can prevent or reduce depression problems. Our major recommendations are inherent in the twelve topics we cycle through in each of our groups. In addition we generally promote the use of cognitive behavioral and mindfulness techniques which are covered in the twelve topics as "Healthy Thinking" and "Self-Awareness / Mindfulness".
